As one of the most important representatives of the so called ‘still generation’ of Flemish architects, the work of Stéphane Beel is typified through a subtle application of architecture within the existing surroundings. The evolution of his intriguing oeuvre is examined here in detail through 17 projects which include; the Roger Raveel Museum in Machelen aan de Leie, the extension of De Singel in Antwerp, the Law Courts in Ghent and the Museumsite in Leuven. Each project is clearly presented through large full page spreads, in-depth descriptions, plans and elevations.
