Published in conjunction with the exhibition at the National Museum of Art in Osaka, this entrancing book captures the essence of Aiko Miyanaga’s ephemeral artworks. Making moulds of objects such as keys, butterflies, puzzle pieces and bowls, she then casts them in naphthalene – a synthetic material commonly found in mothballs. Placed in vitrines, the delicate objects slowly evaporate over a matter of mere weeks. The naphthalene accumulates in crystalline formations on the inside of the glass, a powerful indication of the impermanent, changeable nature of all things. Includes texts by Miyanaga, Jean de Loisy, Akira Tatehata, Yasuyuki Nakai and Shin-Ichi Fukuoka.
