This 12th volume of Prospectiva delves into the complexity and richness of contemporary architecture in Colombia. This territory is traversed by geographical, social and political tensions, demanding precise and imaginative architectural responses. The twenty projects selected by Xavier González and Camilo Restrepo demonstrate an approach to architecture that is deeply rooted in the local context and climate. This approach is characterised by a pragmatic adaptability, or 'bricolage', which incorporates influences and available resources, as well as social and environmental awareness. The projects also demonstrate a constant search for spatial generosity and porosity, where the boundaries between interior and exterior are blurred. Spanning homes in tropical regions, urban parks, educational facilities, and cultural centres, this volume provides an incomplete yet vibrant overview of Colombia's architectural landscape, illustrated with plans, construction details, and critical texts by the curators. This publication documents and analyses an architecture that, despite facing contextual and systemic challenges, demonstrates inventiveness and character. It resists static definitions and proposes new sensibilities for the present and future of architectural practice.
