This book explores, for the first time, the Nordic Classical architecture movement of the early twentieth century, which flourished between National Romanticism and Modernism in Scandinavia. It includes the lives and work of Gunnar Asplund, Hack Kampmann and Alvar Aalto, among others, and covers the many outstanding and architecturally important buildings of the period, such as the Stockholm Woodland Cemetery, the Copenhagen Police Headquarters and the Jvvaskyla Workers Club. An overview of this important architectural movement is a timely exploration of the architects, their buildings and the cultural and social changes to which they were responding.
