The world is urbanising at a rapid pace. It is estimated that by the year 2050 more than seven of the nine billion people on earth will live in cities. This inevitable process presents a tremendous political, social, economic and ecological challenge. At the same time, cities across the world offer solutions for the tasks that urban planners, designers and architects are faced with in the twenty-first century. The city is our future. But only if it is designed, planned and managed differently.
